I never rate birding guides with 5 stars but in this case I am doing an exception. The reason why I strongly recommend Turaco is three-fold. First, Musa Jatta and assistants are quite seasoned birders. This is one of the things you want the most when hiring a birding tour. Musa has a very well-trained eyes and ears which will detect, find and identify birds that are almost impossible to find, it is certainly a gift. Second, the organization of the tours is truly top notch. I have had the chance to travel around the world for birding or wildlife observation and seldom find a well-put-together tour. Finally, Musa and his team excel in professionalism. Everything that was agreed upon happened, one can tell that responsibility is a core value at Turaco Birding.

My friend and I took a 7 day trip with Musa and his driver Alieu; we had a great time. We enjoyed their company immensely. Musa apart from being a very decent person is also one of those gifted birders who have the knack of locating birds that most of us would probably miss. His eyesight, hearing and identification skills are superb. We used another professional guide later in the holiday and it underlined just how good Musa was. The 7 day itinerary was fine but in hindsight the trip to Koalack for the Swallow-tailed Kites was a long one and it took up two days without much birding being done. Ideally, it should be a 9 day trip or better still - take the 14 day option.

Musa Jatta is one of the best, if not the best guide of The Gambia and Senegal. He has connections to be able to find birds, and has a sharp eye. And above all, he is a nice and honest man. Any down sides? Perhaps, he doesn't know when to stop ;-) He is just driven to please the customer :-)
